The Last Thylacine for Antonia Baehr Antonia asked me to make a contribution to her upcoming project ABECEDARIUM BESTIARIUM, a collection of solo pieces on the topic of interspecies relations. The request was to find my affinity to an exinct animal and create a score that she can perform as a solo performance. I have chosen the thylacine – also known as tasmanian tiger. The last of these species died in an australian zoo in 1936. My composition plays with the identification of the observer with this animal, evocing feelings that often switch between compassion and predominance. |
